VA Lillian T. Pratt Distinguished Professor and Chair of Orthopaedic Surgeon and Professor of Plastic Surgery
Dr. Chhabra graduated from John Hopkins University with an undergraduate degree in Biology before completing his medical education at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the University of Virginia Health System. He received his fellowship training in hand and upper extremity microvascular and congenital hand surgery at the Hand Center of San Antonio and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital.
Dr. Chhabra returned to the University of Virginia in 2002 during which time he helped create the University of Virginia Hand Center. His areas of expertise include hand, wrist, and elbow trauma and arthritis with a particular interest in athletic injuries and congenital hand surgery. He has a basic science laboratory that is investigating flexor tendon healing using growth factor and stem cell technology and tissue engineering principles.
Dr. Chhabra is a nationally recognized Orthopaedic educator and has been a course director for several orthopedic board review courses. He has received the University of Virginia Master Educator Award and the University of Virginia School of Medicine Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Chhabra is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and a fellow of the American Orthopaedic Association. United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS)
Director of Public Relations and Marketing
Ms. Schaffner joined UNOS as the Public Relations Director in September, 2008. She is responsible for marketing campaigns and public education efforts. Prior to working at UNOS, Ms. Schaffner was a news anchor for the Richmond ABC affiliate WRIC-TV8 where she worked for more than two decades. Over the years she's been a board member and has served on dozens of Richmond area non-profits, including the Central Virginia Foodbank, Meals on Wheels, Easter Seals Virginia and Maymont. Ms. Schaffner received a Bachelor's of Science in Communications from Ohio University.
Heather James, a graduate from Hanover High School in 2013, will be presenting with Ms. Schaffner. Heather is a double lung/liver and kidney transplant recipient, all before the age of 23. Heather will be talking about the path she traveled and the organ donation journey from her perspective.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
Mr. Amparo is the Deputy Assistant Administrator of the National Preparedness Directorate at the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency, where he is responsible for delivering education, training and exercises to build a culture of preparedness in the United States. His distinguished career in emergency management spans more than two decades at the State and Federal levels. Mr. Amparo entered the Senior Executive Service (SES) in 2011.
Mr. Amparo joined FEMA in 2009 as a Senior Advisor to the Office of Response and Recovery where he championed FEMA’s pre-staged commodity policy that includes emergency provisions for vulnerable populations. He supported the realignment of responsibilities among the FEMA directorates, negotiated national partnerships, integrated response and recovery activities, and improved efficiency in the delivery of disaster services.
